Aikido – first 3 lessons free

Train locally at one of our New Zealand dojos.

Already active? Lift, run, cycle, train martial arts – or just move well? Aikido will challenge you in ways most training doesn’t.

What is Aikido?

Aikido is a Japanese martial art focused on balance, timing, and efficient movement under pressure.

It’s non-competitive, but make no mistake – it’s demanding. Good aikido rewards body awareness, coordination, and calm decision-making.

Aikido Shinryukan students train under New Zealand’s only 8th Dan practitioner, Shihan Nobuo Takase.

What you’ll develop:

  • Advanced balance and coordination
  • Whole-body movement and joint control
  • Calm, controlled response under pressure
  • Practical self-defence based on leverage, not strength
  • Longevity – training that supports your body long-term

If you already train, aikido will refine what you’ve built.

Aikido Shinryukan has 7 dojos in Auckland and a dojo in Hamilton, Cambridge, Tauranga, Gisborne, Wellington, Nelson, Motueka, Christchurch, Rangiora, Dunedin and Alexandra.

Why the first 3 lessons are free

Aikido isn’t something you “get” in one class.

Three sessions lets you:

  • Train properly, not just observe
  • Feel how technique works against resistance
  • Decide if this kind of challenge is for you

No pressure. No obligation.

We have dojos all over New Zealand – find your nearest one below.

Your first classes

  • Wear comfortable training clothes
  • Train at your own pace – intensity comes from precision, not speed
  • Experienced instructors who understand athletes and beginners alike
  • Adults of all ages and fitness levels on the mat

You’ll be working – mentally and physically – from day one.

Aikido is a good fit if you

  • Already train and want a deeper skillset
  • Want self-defence without ego or aggression
  • Care about movement quality, not just output
  • Are already thinking long-term about strength, mobility, and control
