The Bushinkai Dojo welcomed fellow practitioners and instructors that travelled to attend the course from London, Western Super-mare and Newton Abbot Devon. The first session focused on weapons and the differences frequently encountered between Taijutsu and Kumi Tachi practice. Emphasis was directed to the actual commonalities in both Waza, including consideration of the mind set encountered during weapons handling. The physical approach to enhancing dexterity and feeling whilst maintaining control of the Bokken or Jo naturally followed on.
The additional aim of creating a greater perception of awareness between participants proved to be too great a temptation to ignore, with participants being encouraged to practice their Suburi movements at one elbows length in distance from one another. It goes without saying that every one’s awareness of proximity was acutely heightened and participants began to develop a finely attuned consciousness to their surrounding and the timing of their movements. The almost instantaneous adaptation to such close proximity training is a credit to all, especially to those instructors who have consistently taught Buki Waza in their dojo’s.
Justin Marchant Sensei followed up with an excellent repertoire of Taijutsu techniques which focused on relaxed and fluid movement and Nage’s ability to lead their Uke. The weekend’s lessons continued to be alternated between the guest Sensei who provided a very enjoyable learning environment suited to the wide variety of individual participants. Each lesson provided a fun and challenging atmosphere giving all participants the opportunity to fine tune each technique to suit their own personal application.Throughout the entire weekend everyone was enraptured with the hospitality received from Sensei Nigel Jones and the Abertillery Bushinkan members. Accommodation and transport was also gratefully organised for those participants who travelled the distance, so that they could safely attend and thoroughly enjoy themselves, at the Saturday evenings dinner in Abergaveny.
Thank you to all who made the weekend an absolute joyous occasion!
